Starch Washing Cyclones

2025-11-24

Product structure and principle

The hydrocyclones consists of a casing, an orifice plate, a cap, a swirl tube, a plugging tube, and etc.

The starch milk and the wash water pass through the washing system in a countercurrent manner, and the washing system usually consists of 6 to 12 stages. Each stage contains a number of swirl tubes that are housed in the housing of the "swirl separator" and operate in parallel.

Each stage of the hydrocyclone has a feed interface, an underflow interface and an overflow interface.

The underflow contains concentrated starch milk, and the overflow contains soluble matter and fine slag. The underflow of a certain stage is sent to the intermediate stage feed pump along with the overflow of the previous stage. The starch emulsion first enters stage 1 of the scrubbing system and is then washed stepwise to the desired refined starch milk, exiting the system through the bottom stage of the final stage.

The overflow contains thin starch milk and impurities to be removed. This allows the wash water (before entering the scrubbing system from the last stage) to exit the system after passing through the overflow of stage 1, expelling impurities such as protein and fine fiber slag.
